Your first Brazilian sugaring appointment is usually far less dramatic than the version you have built in your head. You will have privacy, clear instructions, and control throughout the service. The goal is efficient hair removal—not making you feel exposed or awkward.
Here is what to expect when booking Brazilian sugaring at Honey Bare Wax Bar in Erie.
What is Brazilian sugaring?
Brazilian sugaring removes hair from the front, bikini line, labia or scrotal area as appropriate to the booked service, and between the cheeks. You can request that some hair remain in front. The sugar paste is applied against growth and removed with the direction of growth.
Before your appointment
Allow hair to grow to about ¼ inch. For most clients, that means roughly two weeks after shaving. Gently exfoliate one or two days before, then arrive with clean, dry skin and no heavy lotion or oil.
Wear loose, breathable clothing. Tight leggings or restrictive underwear can rub freshly treated skin on the way home.
Checking in and discussing the service
Your esthetician will confirm what you booked, ask about medications and topical products, and explain what will be removed. This is the time to mention sensitive skin, previous reactions, pregnancy, retinoids, recent procedures, or anything that could affect the service.
You can ask questions before clothing is removed. Nothing should feel rushed or mysterious.
Privacy and positioning
You will be given privacy to undress from the waist down. During the service, your esthetician will guide you through simple positions that keep the skin supported and allow safe access. Positions may include knees bent, one leg at a time, or briefly bringing knees toward the chest for the back strip.
Your body is not being judged. Licensed estheticians perform intimate services professionally and focus on skin, hair direction, and technique.
Does Brazilian sugaring hurt?
You will feel the hair being removed. The first appointment is often the most noticeable because the hair is dense and may have been shaved for years. Most discomfort is brief and stops as soon as the removal is complete.
Regular four-to-six-week appointments can feel easier because regrowth is more consistent. Avoid arriving highly caffeinated if caffeine makes you feel tense or sensitive.
How long does the appointment take?
Timing varies with hair density, previous removal method, skin response, and whether trimming or extra cleanup is needed. A thorough service is more important than racing a clock. Your appointment also includes time for consultation and aftercare instructions.
What happens immediately afterward?
Temporary redness, tenderness, or small follicle bumps can be normal. The area should be treated gently: no rubbing, picking, fragranced products, or aggressive exfoliation.
For about 24 hours, avoid intense workouts, hot tubs, saunas, very hot showers, tanning, and sexual activity. Wear loose clothing and keep the area clean.
When should you exfoliate?
Wait until the skin feels calm—typically two to three days—then begin gentle exfoliation two or three times per week. Add a lightweight, fragrance-free moisturizer to help keep dry skin from trapping regrowth.
